Samsung had just released the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OTA update for the Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 in Indonesia, so the European and well, worldwide launch of the firmware is highly expected. The software should be made available for more countries during the following weeks, but if you want to install the update sooner, then you can anytime choose to follow a guide that will take you through the flashing process. Of course, you will have to manually update the Galaxy S3 Mini to the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM, because as stated, the software is currently rolling out only in Indonesia.
The Galaxy S3 Mini is currently running the Jelly Bean 4.1 ROM, so this is only a minor update. But you should get it as first is the official one, and then it is important to resolve the present bugs and add the latest features and capabilities available. Also, flashing the same will be easy, because there are few steps to take care of. Of course, as this is the manual method, you will have to use Odin for the installation procedure, this being the safest way in which you can apply the official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 firmware on your S3 Mini i8190.
This software is dubbed as I8190DXALL3 and can be installed on any Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 devices as long as we are talking about an unlocked I8190 smartphone. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about, as you will safely update your handset to latest Android OS available. Remember that you will also be able to OTA apply the firmware during the next few weeks, but if you just can’t wait this tutorial is perfect for you.
The best part when dealing with stock or in our case official updates is that the warranty doesn’t gets void. As you know, when you install custom ROMs firmware or unofficial software, the warranty is void. Well, by completing this guide you are in safe hands and you can keep the warranty because we will not make changes into the internal system of your Android based Galaxy S3 Mini. Furthermore, if your device is running a beta OS, then now you will be able to restore the lost warranty and reset the flash counter of your phone.
Also, usually a root operation is being required when you are trying to flash unofficial upgrades. Well, this is not our case as we are dealing with the official Android 4.1.2 OS meaning that you don’t have to own a rooted S3 Mini for completing this tutorial. Unfortunately, if your smartphone is rooted, after updating it with the present ROM, the root access will be revoked. You can regain the root access only by following a guide that is suitable with the new firmware, the official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 I8190DXALL3 one (we will bring a root guide soon, so stay close).
Anyway, I do recommend you to backup the Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 data before heading to the proper steps, because you might end up in noticing that your personal info has been wiped out. It is unlikely for that to happen, but why to risk it? You can use our backup and restore tutorials for learning how to save almost everything from your phone, so take your time and complete this task. Also, install KIES on your computer for getting the S3 Mini drivers; else you won’t be able to apply the Jelly Bean firmware.
As mentioned, a computer will be required. On the same and on your handset uninstall the antivirus programs. Then, on your phone the USB debugging option must be checked (enabled). Take a look over the battery status of your device, and if you notice that there is less than 60% power left, go and charge your SGS3. Finally, apply the steps from below only for the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini smartphone model number I8190, or else you will risk in bricking your Android powered phone, or tablet.
How to Manually Update Galaxy S3 Mini to official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS
- Remember to download KIES on your computer for installing the proper drivers for your phone.
- Then, download the update file by using the link from here.
- Extract the downloaded file on the PC.
- Download and install Odin.
- On the PC open Odin.
- Turn off the smartphone and reboot it in download mode.
- The Galaxy S3 Mini can be entered in download mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
- While the phone is in download mode, connect the same with the computer (Odin must be running).
- As soon as the devices are connected, on Odin the “added” message should be displayed.
- Also, the ID:COM section should be yellow.
- If not, try to re-install the drivers for your device; then repeat the steps from above.
- From Odin, select “PDA”.
- Then, pick the update file and click “start”.
- Don’t make any other changes in Odin.
- When the installation procedure is over, on Odin the “pass” message should be displayed.
- So, you can now unplug the USB cord and reboot your handset.
Now, if Odin gets stuck while running the installation procedure, you will need to close it, unplug the USB cord and turn off the S3 Mini. Then, you need to take off and re-insert the battery of your device and restart the procedure from the first step. Also, if in the end, you get a boot loop, you will have to reboot the SGS3 in recovery mode (press and hold Home, Volume Up and Power buttons together). From recovery select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”; and then “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”. Now, everything should be working fine.
So, there you have it; the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has been updated to official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software. Test the new firmware and do share your impressions with us and with other users. Remember that this update was developed by those of xda-developers so we have them to thanks for the present procedure. Anyway, if you don’t like this method, then you can wait for the OTA update to be released for your country.
