The BlackBerry Z10 is a stunning and powerful smartphone. With all its speed and beauty, however, even the best of the best can have software issues. From random reboots to terrible battery, software can cause lots of problems. This, of course, is extremely problematic.

Most issues can usually be resolved by removing a few problematic apps, but software lockups often indicate there may be a bigger problem. If any lockups or responsiveness issues happen on your BlackBerry 10, the next best thing you can do is a factory hard reset.

While there are a number of reasons you might want to reset your BlackBerry, the main reason is really to fix issues. You also may want to reset it if you or selling it or giving it to someone. I know that whenever I sell a smartphone, I always reset it.

Anyway, to factory reset your all-new BlackBerry Z10, follow the steps below:

  1. From the homescreen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Next, scroll down and tap Security and Privacy
  4. Tap Security Wipe, then enter “blackberry” in the box provided and tap Delete Data
  5. Your BlackBerry Z10 will now reboot and reset.

All in all, the BlackBerry Z10 is a pretty decent smartphone, but it’s missing several key components, especially apps. If you can look past that, though, the Z10 might really be the phone for you. In our review of the BlackBerry Z10, we said:

“The app selection in the BlackBerry World is really lacking. Sure, it will have 100,000 apps by the time the BlackBerry Z10 launches, many of these aren’t built specifically for BlackBerry 10 and it shows. Some apps have been ported from Android or use wildly different design approaches but the problem is that a lot just aren’t that good.

I also can’t find the apps that I love to use on a daily basis, including Chase, Instagram, Pandora, Spotify, Flipboard, Google services, Netflix and no Stitcher. You can find alternatives in the store but I’ve found that some of these aren’t as good as what I’m used to. One podcast-streaming app I use gave me the maddening “feature” of automatically stopping every five minutes, so I had to constantly pull it out of my pocket, unlock the device and hit the play button on the app.

To be fair, we’re starting to see some big-name apps come into the the BlackBerry World, as you can get Angry Birds Space, eBay, Skype, WhatsApp, USA Today and others. BlackBerry is doing a good job galvanizing developers and if the BlackBerry Z10 is a success, you can expect more developers to bring their apps over.

The BlackBerry World does have a solid selection of music and videos, though and there will be carrier billing for simple purchasing. Long-time BlackBerry fans will be happy to know that you can finally download and install apps on the BlackBerry Z10 without having to restart it. Yes, there are many existing BlackBerry users who have to restart their phones after installing a new app. Yeesh.

The BlackBerry 10 platform is a clean break from the past but it still faces the challenges you’d expect from a new OS: it lacks polish and app support is not close to what you can find on the competition. BlackBerry 10 does some things very well but I’m not sure if that’s enough to overcome it’s shortcomings.”
